What you’ll need to measure?
- your tape measure (metal is best)
- your step ladder
- a pen and some paper
At DIY Custom Blinds, we make it easy to order perfectly-fitted roller blinds for your windows—even when measuring yourself! Follow these straightforward steps to ensure a seamless process:
Before We Proceed, Let's Decide the following first
Decide: Inside-Mount or Outside-Mount?
Inside‑mount (reveal fit): Blinds sit neatly within the window recess—for a clean, streamlined look.Outside‑mount (face fit): Blinds are mounted outside, overlapping the window frame—for better light control and a bolder appearance.
Inside-Mount (Reveal Fit)
1. Width: Measure inside the top, middle, and bottom of the frame (left-to-right); record the smallest measurement.
2. Height: Measure inside the left, centre, and right (top-to‑bottom); use the smallest value.
3. Depth: Measure from the glass edge or handle to the front of the frame—ensuring there's enough space for the headrail.
💡 Pro tip: Always use the smallest measurements to guarantee the fabric rolls freely without catching.
Outside-Mount (Face Fit)
1. Width: Measure edge-to-edge across the architrave or frame. Then add 50 mm on each side for full coverage.
2. Height: Measure from the top of the frame to the desired blind end (e.g., window sill or floor), and add 50 mm to prevent light leaks around the edges.
This overlap on all sides ensures near blackout performance.

Record & Double‑Check
Write down your final width, height, and (for inside mount) depth.Always measure twice, preferably with two people—one to hold the tape—and verify clarity (e.g., “Width 1220 mm” not “1.22”).

Can I go cordless or motorised?
